J-Term Seminar: International Business

The International Business J-Term Traveling Seminar is designed for students interested in an academic and cultural experience in Morocco, Tunisia, Belgium, and France. Students gain exposure to the diverse facets of international business while visiting countries at different stages of economic development. While in Europe and North Africa, students visit major multi-national organizations and locally-run businesses as well as meet with public officials responsible for economic policy in order to build a well-rounded understanding of the global market. Students have the opportunity to learn from and exchange their observations with experts from IAU as well as distinguished on-site scholars and local guides.

Academic, Behavioral, and Travel Expectations
This trip is a serious one, both academically and culturally. Students are expected to be prepared for intellectual, linguistic, social, and travel challenges. We are traveling as a team, and each member must be prepared, punctual, cautious, and professional. Trip leaders have extensive experience in Tunisia, where the security situation has stabilized and tourism is growing. Team leaders closely monitor the security environment and sensitive areas are avoided. With those important caveats, the trip promises to be an incredible experience, including both fun and adventure.
About the Professor
Yannick Le Genissel has been a marketing professional for 15 years in the apparel industry where he successively held the positions of product manager at Quiksilver & Rip Curl Europe and head of apparel division at Rip Curl Brazil. Yannick then joined one of the startups of the Rocket Internet group to work as sales manager for Brazil's number 1 e-commerce company specialized in outdoor sports products retailing.
He is now an independent consultant in product range optimization and a professor of marketing/sales/ negotiation in business schools. His experience allows him to have a strong knowledge of the following areas: marketing strategy; innovation and launch of products and services; marketing of apparel companies; and construction of product portfolio for e-commerce stores.
His business career allows him to have a global, international and concrete vision of product marketing.
Program Fees: $5,845
Program fees include tuition for three credits, lodging, daily breakfast, some group lunches and/or dinners, intra-program transportation (by plane, train, or bus), entrances/fees for all scheduled cultural activities and academic visits, orientation, and health, liability, and repatriation insurance. Additional student costs include roundtrip airfare, most lunches/dinners, textbooks, and personal expenses.
Students who enroll in a January Term Seminar and the spring semester in Aix-en-Provence or Barcelona consecutively are eligible to receive a $2,000 grant credited to their spring semester invoice. In order to be eligible to receive the grant, students must participate in the Early Start Program during the week between the end of the January Term Seminar and the start of the spring semester. The Early Start Program allows students to move in with their hosts a week before the semester begins, receive French or Spanish language instruction, and participate in local cultural activities!
