Unrestricted Gifts support IAU's operating budget. Donors include alumni, parents of current students and alumni, trustees, faculty, and friends of IAU who wish to make a one-time or an annual donation helping to fund IAU’s financial priorities.
Donating to IAU
There are many ways to donate to IAU. Regardless of the amount or the form that a donation may take, IAU is deeply humbled by the action itself. Whether donors wish to honor or commemorate an individual, or buildings and classrooms through IAU's Naming and Legacy Opportunities, or help ensure the excellence of IAU programs for future generations of students, we invite potential donors to consider and select one or more of the donation opportunities listed below.
MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY!
Until the end of 2021, all donations made to the Board of Directors Diversity Scholarship will be matched by the Board 2:1 if received before July 31 and 1:1 if received by December 31.
IAU's Donor Brick Wall in Manning Hall
The Institute’s new academic building, Manning Hall, 8, rue Littéra testifies to IAU’s decision to reinforce its roots in Aix-en-Provence by adding state-of-the art facilities for international teaching and learning in a unique setting. This fund enables IAU to maintain the fabric of its educational buildings and keeps the centers of academic learning at the forefront of scholarly standards.
Individuals, foundations, and corporations who share IAU's commitment to its ideals are invited to play a significant role by naming and endowing key spaces in all three of IAU’s buildings. Please see descriptions below as well as IAU’s Naming and Legacy Opportunities.
Chapelle des Pénitents Bleus, at 2bis, rue du Bon Pasteur, Aix-en-Provence, is a highly visible symbol of the Aixois roots of IAU. Within its walls,
generations of American undergraduate students have experienced the learning that
gave them their own keys for opening doors to the world.
Manning Hall, 8, rue Littéra testifies to IAU’s reinforced presence in Aix-en-Provence,
with the promise of providing state-of-the art facilities for teaching and learning in an
international program in a unique setting.
The Marchutz School of Art studio, named for the acclaimed painter and art
historian who taught at IAU from 1960 to 1973 before a group of his followers
started the Marchutz School. After Leo Marchutz’s death, Amos Booth presented the
Board of Trustees with the possibility of acquiring the School, which they did in 1984.
Donor Bricks in Manning Hall
For a donation of $1,000, a commemorative brick allows alumni, friends, and family members to create a permanent dedication to IAU College. Each brick is engraved with the donor’s name (and class year for IAU alumni). The bricks are installed in the wall of the courtyard at Manning Hall.
The Herbert Maza Full Year Scholarship Fund
A scholarship in honor of Dr. Herbert Maza, co-founder and first President of the Institute, provides scholarship support specifically to full-year students.
The Amos Booth French Honors Program Scholarship
A scholarship fund in honor of Amos Booth, esteemed teacher, director and second President of IAU. This fund provides scholarship support to students enrolled in the French Honors Program.
John Rewald Art & Art History Scholarship
IAU offers an endowed scholarship in honor of Mr. John Rewald, art historian and colleague of Leo Marchutz- namesake of the Marchutz School of Fine Arts. Through the collaborative study of artist Paul Cezanne’s work in Aix and the surrounding region, Rewald and Marchutz sought to deepen understanding of Cezanne’s impact on the art world and preserve his memory in the city of Aix. This scholarship is awarded to students of art and art history who demonstrate consistent and profound study in the disciplines of art and art history.

The Stone and Holt Weeks Field Study Scholarship
In memory of Stone and Holt Weeks, two inspirational, service-oriented young men and sons of Artist-in-Residence and longtime friends of the school, Jan Taylor Weeks and her husband, Linton Weeks. Donations to this fund provide financial assistance to spring semester students participating in the Marchutz School Venice painting excursion. The family has created the Stone and Holt Weeks Foundation to promote the continuation of the work and the spirit of service to others and the community, as exemplified by the lives of Stone and Holt Weeks.
The Yamina Boudellal Student Travel Grant
In honor of Yamina Boudellal, for her forty-six years of untiring and devoted service to the students of the Institute for American Universities. Each semester/term, IAU will provide travel grants to students with financial need.
IAU’s Endowment is fundamental to the Institute's ability to plan for the long-term and to manage durring turbulent economic and diplomatic times. The fund provides for a permanent source of income to support the Institute's academic programs and provides for future growth while fulfilling IAU’s need for a predictable income stream.
The Allison Benson Memorial Fund
Donations to this fund will go to the Allison Benson Memorial Scholarship for future Kansas State University students studying abroad with IAU. IAU was struck by tragedy on February 7, 2020 when Allison Benson, a student from Kansas State University, died unexpectedly while studying in Aix-en-Provence, France. Allison had been a member of the IAU community from a young age, as her aunt Kirsten Kircher was a student with IAU in the mid-1980’s. Allison had long nourished the dream of studying with IAU, and had set a goal of becoming a French teacher. Allison’s generosity of spirit, coupled with her delight in discovering France and its culture, won her many friends during her short time in Aix-en-Provence. IAU extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Allison Benson for their tragic loss. This scholarship in Allison's name will go to deserving students who carry on the legacy of Allison's bright spirit and luminosity.
Board of Directors Diversity Scholarship
Funds from this scholarship will be used to attract outstanding students from diverse backgrounds who are traditionally underrepresented in international education including LGBTQIA+, first-generation college students, those identifying by a certain race, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, national origin, or ancestry, students from low-income families, and students with a history of overcoming adversity. Planned Gifts: The Mont Sainte-Victoire Legacy Society
IAU College is extremely grateful to our alumni and other supporters who have remembered the Institute with a gift in their Will. The Mont Saint-Victoire Legacy Society is an association for donors who have included IAU in their estate plans through some form of planned gift or other charitable donation. Gifts of Stock
Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to IAU. Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock.
