Maymester Seminar: Filmmaking and Marketing at Cannes
Program Dates: May 12 - May 24, 2025
This course is an intense examination of filmmaking, marketing, and distribution during the Cannes Film Festival. The course will introduce students to the marketing and distribution practices of international film. Students will engage the films and filmmakers firsthand through a series of screenings, panels, course lectures, networking opportunities and class assignments.
The Cannes Film Festival and the surrounding activities are the core of the course. This is designed to be an immersive learning experience. The students will be given market badges which will give them access to the film market, film screenings, and over 50 International film pavilions.

About the Professor

Eric Pierson, PhD is the Co-Director of Film Studies at the University of San Diego, and is also a professor in the Communications Department. He earned his PhD in Communications from the Institute of Communication Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research and expertise includes film and media studies, minority images in film and television, political economy, and film production and distribution.
