Pre-Departure Requirements - Barcelona

Before students begin their semester, summer, or academic year in Barcelona, Spain, there are several items that need to be submitted to IAU's U.S. Office. Please complete these in a timely manner by the deadlines below.

For Semester and Summer Programs in Barcelona, Spain, please refer to the below list of requirements.

  • Wellness and Accommodations Questionnaire - In order to better assist students while abroad, we request that students complete the Wellness and Accommodations Questionnaire. This information will allow IAU to provide support should health/mental health concerns arise during the study abroad experience, and particularly in the event of a health emergency. IAU may request additional documentation from students’ health care provider as part of their application. This documentation will provide guidance to IAU on how to best support students during their participation in the program.

  • Financial Assistance Form - If you are paying IAU directly and relying on financial assistance to cover all or a portion of your IAU tuition and fees, please download the Financial Assistance Form, complete your portion, and then have a financial aid advisor from your home institution complete their section and return it to IAU. Please upload your complete form through your student portal. This items is not applicable to all students.

  • Travel Itinerary - Please complete the online form through your student portal.

  • IAU Post Acceptance Waivers - Complete and submit electronically. 

  • Program Deposit - Starting with Fall 2022 programs, for students invoiced by IAU directly for the program deposit, the full non-refundable enrollment deposit of $1,000 is due by the established deposit deadline. The deposit secures your course registration and housing placement. These placements will not be secure until this payment is made. Details on refunds can be found on the Financial Policies page. You can pay your deposit by check or credit card. COVID-19 POLICIES: For the safety and well-being of all program participants, IAU-ACM is requiring all program participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to participate in all IAU-ACM programs. IAU-ACM considers a student fully vaccinated if they have received a complete set of injections, including booster shots if eligible. Students will be required to submit proof of vaccination to IAU-ACM's U.S. Office of Admissions prior to going abroad. Passports - Please note that for all IAU programs your passport must adhere to the following guidelines: it must be in good condition, with a date of expiration at least 6 months after the end of your stay in the Schengen area (Europe), and issued within the past 10 years and containing at least 2 blank pages. 

Visas - Semester and academic year students with a U.S. passport will need a student visa. Please refer to the Passport and Visa page for Spain for specific details regarding the visa application process. IAU will provide the necessary documentation required to prove you will be a student abroad, but the remaining application, fees, and materials to receive a visa are the responsibility of the student.

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program - IAU recommends that all students register with the U.S. State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  By enrolling in this system, the U.S. Embassy can keep students updated with important safety and security announcements.  It will also help family and friends get in touch during an emergency.  For more information and to register, please visit the STEP website.

Cancellation Policy - All students are held to IAU's Financial Policies when cancelling enrollment in an IAU program.

Summer Term Students: By April 1 (Program Deposit and Financial Assistance Form), April 15 (Travel Itinerary, Wellness Questionnaire, Post-Acceptance Waivers)
