Provence Wine Immersion
May 10-16, 2020
Provence is the site of the oldest vineyards in France, dating back to the original Phoenician settlements 2600 years ago. Today, Provence is the world leader in quality Rosé wine production. Its 9 AOC/AOPs have varying soils, expositions and microclimates that bring an abundant diversity to these stellar wines. Marked by powerful and expressive fruity and floral aromas, high acid and tantalizing color, Provence Rosé has set the standard for Rosés world-wide. The region is also very well-known for distinctive red and white wines, including the robust reds from Bandol and crisp whites of Cassis.
During this one-week wine immersion, the program will explore various sites with growers and producers responsible for these expressive wines. Through a mixture of conferences, discussions with professionals, site visits and tastings participants will learn about the terroir, viticulture, winemaking and aging techniques across the region as well as its deep wine history and geography. Visiting 7 of the 9 regional AOC/AOPs, the group will also be exploring Provence’s world renown local gastronomic cuisine and pairing it with local wines of distinction. Daily excursions will also lead us to the Rhone Valley to explore and taste the world-famous Rosés of Tavel.
