Bachelor's and Master's Programs

Financial Policies

Costs vary by program so we encourage you to visit the Program Fees page for the most up-to-date programs costs. For information on making payments to IAU, payment options, and deadlines please visit our Payments Page.

Enrollment Deposits

Students are responsible for a $1,000 non-refundable enrollment deposit due with their application ($1,500 for J-Term Travel Seminars).  This amount will be deducted from the total tuition portion of the student’s final invoice. In the event that a student is not accepted to a program due to program cancellation, the enrollment deposit can be credited towards an alternate program or fully refunded.

Refunds

Refunds may be granted only if email notice of withdrawal, sent by student or sponsoring institution, is received by IAU’s Registrar according to the schedule below. J-Term students must submit the J-Term Cancellation Form in order to officially cancel enrollment.

J-Term students
  • November 1: full refund of all program fees paid (excluding the enrollment deposit)
  • November 2 through program start date:* 50% of all program fees will be refunded (excluding the $1,500 deposit)
  • As of program start date: no refunds

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IAU has adjusted its refund policy for Summer 2020 semester and Fall 2020 applicants only. Normally the $1,000 enrollment deposit ($250 for the virtual summer programs) is nonrefundable. Due to the unprecedented situation the world is currently facing, and to allow for as much flexibility for our students and partners to make decisions that are best for them, IAU has made the deposit refundable for Fall 2020 semester applicants to Aix-en-Provence and Barcelona, as well as Summer 2020 term applicants. Please note, these policies will not be extended to any future semesters. The updated refund policies are as follows:

Summer 2020 Term Refund Policy ($250 enrollment deposit)
  • 15 days or more prior to program start date: full refund of all fees paid (including $250 enrollment deposit)
  • Within 15 days of program start date: 75% of all fees paid will be refunded
  • As of program start date or after: no refunds

Fall 2020 Semester Refund Policy ($1,000 enrollment deposit)
  • Withdrawals 30 days or more prior to program start date: full refund of all fees paid (including $1,000 enrollment deposit)
  • Withdrawals within 30 days of program start date: 75% of tuition and 75% of housing will be refunded
  • As of program start date or after: no tuition or housing refunds

Please see all announcements related to COVID-19 on our page here.

*The program start date for the J-Term will be the date students are advised to arrive abroad. In the event of a deferral, IAU will retain $750 to cover irrevocable costs for the current term and will transfer the remaining $750 towards the next year if IAU is notified on or before November 1st and the full $1,500 deposit has already been paid. Otherwise, the general refund policy will apply and no funds will be transferrable given the logistical nature of the traveling seminars.

**The program start date for the semester and summer programs is the orientation day, as listed on the calendars page.

Exceptions for illness, accident, or anything else out of the control of the student can be made. A written explanation along with supporting documentation must be sent to IAU's Dean of Admissions. The decision is final.

Deferrals

Accepted students may defer their enrollment for up to one year (from their original intended term of enrollment). Students who defer are not required to submit additional paperwork, but IAU reserves the right to contact the sending institution to confirm the student is still in good standing.
