PROGRAM FEES

Program Fees vary by program so we encourage you to visit the Program Fees page. For information on making payments to IAU, payment options, and deadlines please visit our Payments PageAll students participating in IAU programs are held to IAU's financial policies. Students participating in IAU programs through another organization are held to that organizations' financial policies.  Failure to comply with these policies may impact student participation in the program as well as ability to receive an official transcript.

ENROLLMENT DEPOSITS

Students are responsible for a $1,000 enrollment deposit due with their application ($1,500 for J-Term applicants). This amount will be deducted from the total tuition portion of the student’s final invoice. Please see the Cancellation Policies section below for additional information regarding deposit refunds.

CANCELLATION POLICIES

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IAU has created greater flexibility for students and partner institutions by modifying its cancellation policies for Fall 2020, J-Term 2021, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021 applicants to all IAU programs including Aix-en-Provence France, Barcelona Spain, and Madrid Spain. Please note, these policies will not necessarily be extended to future terms. Additional cancellation information will be posted soon for terms after Spring 2021.

To cancel enrollment in a program, semester, summer and J-Term applicants - or their sponsoring institution - must send an email to enroll@iau.edu outlining the reasons behind the cancellation. Financial policies related to student cancellation or program suspension are as follows:

Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 Applicants:

  • Student Cancellation: Program Start Date refers to the Arrival Date listed on the Academic Calendars page
    • Up to 30 days prior to program start date: full refund of all monies paid, including the enrollment deposit
    • Between 30 days and 15 days prior to program start date: full refund of all monies paid, excluding $200 of the enrollment deposit
    • Within 15 days of the program start date: full refund of all monies paid, excluding the $1,000 enrollment deposit
    • As of program start date or after: only recoverable expenses will be refunded
  • Program Suspension:
    • Prior to Program Start Date: If the program is suspended prior to the start of the program, IAU will make every effort to conduct its programming virtually. Any housing payments will be fully refunded. If IAU is unable to provide its program virtually, all program fees paid will be refunded.
    • After Program Start Date: If the IAU program is suspended after the start of the program, courses will continue remotely. Recoverable housing and other fees (activities, field studies, etc) will be refunded.


J-Term 2021 Applicants:

Due to the ongoing travel restrictions and health risks of the COVID-19 pandemic, IAU has canceled J-Term traveling programs for January 2021. IAU plans to instead host Maymester traveling seminars in May 2021. More information about these programs will be posted as it becomes available at www.iau.edu/maymester. You can find details on J-Term 2022 programs at www.iau.edu/academics/jterm.

  • Student Cancellation: Program Start Date refers to the Arrival Date listed on the Academic Calendars page
    • Up to 30 days prior to program start date: full refund of all monies paid, including the enrollment deposit
    • Between 30 days and 20 days prior to program start date: full refund of all monies paid, excluding $500 of the enrollment deposit
    • Within 20 days of the program start date: full refund of all monies paid, excluding the $1,500 enrollment deposit
    • As of program start date or after: no refunds 
  • Program Suspension:
    • Prior to Program Start Date: If the Program is suspended prior to the Program Start Date, IAU will issue a full refund of all monies paid.
    • After Program Start Date: If the Program is suspended after the Program Start Date, IAU will refund a prorated amount for student support services including insurance. At this stage, refunds for lodging and other travel-related expenses are not possible. Coursework would continue remotely.


DEFERRALS/TRANSFER OF MONIES PAID

Accepted students may defer their enrollment and monies paid for up to one year (from their original intended term of enrollment). Students who defer are not required to submit additional paperwork, but IAU reserves the right to contact the sending institution to confirm the student is still in good standing. Students may transfer monies paid to a future program.

EXCEPTIONS
Exceptions for illness, accident, or anything else out of the control of the student can be made. A written explanation along with supporting documentation must be sent to 
IAU's Dean of Admissions. Their decision is final.



VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES PROGRAMS

    • As of program start date or after: no tuition refunds
